Struggling to Be Productive? Make These 5 Changes to Your Office Desk!

Part of the: Office Fitout Collection

If you’re struggling to be productive, you’re not alone. Sitting at an office desk for hours isn’t always super motivating! Your workspace and your surroundings have an undeniable effect on your productivity.

That’s why it’s so important to craft a space where you feel comfortable and happy to be. Your office desk is a huge part of that, so here are five changes you can make to boost your productivity!

5 Office Desk Changes for Greater Productivity

Get a Plant

Adding a plant to your workspace is the easiest way to boost your mood and improve your productivity. Additionally, plants help purify the air and reduce stress.

There are many potted plants you can choose from to have something beautiful and green on your office desk. We recommend low-maintenance plants such as a cactus, succulent, snake plant, bamboo palm, aloe, and spider plant to mention a few.

Add Some Colour to Your Workspace

Colours are known to have a psychological impact on our productivity and overall mood. Somewhere along the way, we were taught that office desks and spaces should be dull. But that’s wrong!

You can use office desk decorations to add a pop of colour depending on your needs. For example, red can help if your job is demanding. Blue can help with focus, yellow is energising, green can be calming, and orange can promote inspiration.

Declutter Your Office Desk Regularly

This is one of the most common recommendations because it truly makes a difference. You can’t be productive if your space is messy, full of stuff that gets in the way, or you can never find anything you need.

Decluttering your desk regularly will allow you to stay organized, avoid mental overload and procrastination, and reduce stress. Make sure everything has its place, so get drawer, desk, and file organisers. The goal is to see at least 80% of your desk space.

Eliminate Distractions

Eliminating distractions as much as possible is another common piece of advice because it does help you be more productive. Your office desk should have the things that allow you to do your job well.

Needless to say, you should limit the use of your smartphone and other devices while you work. The environment can also make you lose your focus, so consider getting noise-cancelling headphones.

Personalise Your Workspace

Though it’s important to make sure that everything on your desk promotes focus, it’s also important to personalise your workspace. This helps you prevent stress and establish a positive connection between your identity and your work.

You can make your workspace your own while still avoiding distracting things and clutter. The key is keeping it simple. For example, you can have your favourite mug, frame your favourite picture of friends, family, or pets, print your favourite quotes, etc.

Productivity ebbs and flows, but there are things you can do to maintain your focus at work. These 5 office desk changes can be of great help!
