Meet Jennifer Amy: JasonL's Head of Interior Design

As part of our Women in Design month, we sat down with Jennifer Amy, JasonL's Head of Interior Design, to talk about what drives her work, how thoughtful design transforms workplaces, and the trends shaping the offices of tomorrow.

What excites you most about designing workspaces?

What excites me most is creating environments that genuinely support how people work, collaborate, and connect. A well-designed workplace can transform culture, improve productivity, and make people feel proud of where they work.

How would you describe your design philosophy in a sentence?

Thoughtful, human-centred design that balances functionality, flexibility, and timeless aesthetics to support the way people work today and into the future.

When starting a fitout design, what are the first things you consider?

The first step is always understanding the client’s business - their culture, team structure, workflows, and future growth. From there we analyse how the space needs to perform, ensuring the layout supports productivity, collaboration, and wellbeing.

What is one design mistake you see often?

Designing purely for aesthetics rather than functionality. A workplace may look impressive, but if it doesn’t support the way teams actually work, the space quickly becomes inefficient.

How do you balance aesthetics with functionality in your designs?

Functionality always leads the design process. Once the layout, circulation, and workflow are resolved, the aesthetics enhance the experience - materials, finishes, and lighting are carefully selected to reinforce the brand and create a cohesive environment.

What is one key trend shaping modern offices?

The shift toward activity-based and flexible work environments. Offices are no longer rows of desks - they now provide a variety of spaces for collaboration, focus work, meetings, and social interaction.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to businesses investing in an office redesign?

Design for the future, not just today. Businesses should consider flexibility, technology integration, and evolving work patterns so the space can adapt as the organisation grows and changes.

How do you see the role of office design evolving with hybrid work and flexible workspaces?

The office is becoming more of a destination rather than just a place to sit at a desk. Design now focuses on creating environments that encourage collaboration, creativity, and connection - providing experiences that employees cannot replicate working from home.
